Description:
The mission church of San Esteban stands atop a giant boulder above the desert floor in the Acoma Pueblo, known as Sky City. One of the twin bell towers looks down from its lofty perch, and the heat of the sun radiates from the mission roof. Our view is from the cool depth of thick adobe walls, which stand as a monument to a terrible struggle between Spaniard and Indian when the Indians were believed to have "cities of gold."
