Description:
In the Hispanic culture of colonial New Mexico the cross was a powerful symbol. The village cemeteries are filled with handmade crosses often cut with intricate profile. Wooden picket fences or fences of wrought iron are used to form railings around graves. Campo Santo has a view of the Pedernal Mountain that can be seen as a flat-topped shape on the right and the volcanic dome of the Jemez range that is considered sacred to the Pueblos rises in the distance.
