Description:
The pueblo of Santa Clara has a rectangular kiva in the large plaza that opens to a view of the sacred mountain to the west, Tsi-como where the great thunderclouds gather in summer. Equal numbers of men and women form two rows. The women wearing yellow capes and a wooden stepped tablita on the head dance in a summer ceremony concerned with the germination, maturation and harvesting of the main staple crop. The male chorus and drummers provide the rhythm for the dance.
